Law 1 Never Outshine the Master
Always make those above you feel comfortably superior. In your desire to please or impress them, do not go too far in displaying your talents or you might accomplish the opposite – inspire fear and insecurity. Make your masters appear more brilliant than they are and you will attain the heights of power.
by Robert Greene and Joost Elffers
Law 1 above is not about unconditional love and giving. The posted law is not about positively giving what one has to give, with honesty and loyalty and an expectation (trust) that God will make your efforts right for Him and you going into the future.
Fear and insecurity are conditions we have because we are human in a world full of sin. God tells us to fear Him and work out our place on earth with Him. Think about it. Our fear of anything else is just a side show if we profess a believe in God. If you don't believe God you get to pick many other gods to fear, and placing your priority and then your actions on the most fearful is what this world is all about.
Misplaced Fear!
The point is the fruit of the Spirit does not allow your envy of those above you. Work out your goals and efforts for this world in concert with what God intends for you. Put him first and what you can do for him first and you will not envy anthing in this world. And, your gifts will shine in this world and the next. Should one fear you and be insecure about you know that they are a side show to your purpose in life and the reason they fear you is because they do not fear God more. Treating your neighbor as yourself puts your neighbor behind the God purpose you have in life, just like it puts you behind the God purpose you have in life.
From Phillipians:
3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.4 Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.5 Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,7 but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.
From Romans
2. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.3 For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you.
And,
Enough said. In spite of what or who is above you, you can build lasting growth on this earth with positive efforts more perminently than with negative and conning efforts. On top of that, you are building with your positives into the life after. Negatives and conning generally does not survive ones death. Even in this life when you are ousted because you did too much good, you will not have trouble finding a bigger opportunity because of the positives of what you have built. In these cases it is a worldly good to be ousted when there is no more good you can do. So what is to fear?
As mentioned above, earthly power plays off fear.
